How much does it cost to rent a bus in Barcelona? There is no fixed tariff: the price depends on hours, kilometres, seats and the day. One Spanish coach operator publishes about €350 to €950 for a half day and €550 to €1,450 for a full day, but those are nationwide figures, not Barcelona prices. We explain what moves the number and what to ask for in writing.

By Editorial team · Updated October 2026 · How we rank

Anyone planning a group trip, a wedding or a company event asks the same thing first: how much does it cost to rent a bus? The honest answer is that there is no catalogue price. Each company builds the total from the hours of service, the kilometres, the seats and the day of the week. This guide covers what goes into a quote, the ranges one operator publishes, and how to compare offers without hidden extras.

We could not find an official public coach tariff for Barcelona, and we will not invent one. The figures below come from a coach company based in Madrid that writes about the whole of Spain. Treat them as an order of magnitude. The price for your group comes only from a closed quote.

How much coach hire costs in Barcelona

In short: a few hundred euros for a short transfer, and over a thousand for a full day with waiting time. That is the picture from the ranges published by the operator Busbanet in its guide to renting a 55-seat coach, updated in February 2026. The figures are for a coach with a driver and cover Spain as a whole, not Barcelona in particular.

This is the operator's own table, which we use only as a reference:

Type of service Published range (with driver)
Half day or local transfers €350 to €950
Weddings or short transfers €350 to €550
Full day or excursion of about 100 to 200 km €550 to €1,450
Multi-day long-distance trip (about 700 km) from €1,950

A second guide by the same operator, on the cost of a coach with a driver, puts a half day at €400 to €700 and says a full day with stops, waiting and tolls can exceed €800 to €1,000. The two pages overlap but do not match to the euro, which is normal because each focuses on a different kind of service.

Two cautions. First, neither page says what the base price includes, so we do not know if tolls or parking are counted. Second, these are estimates, not offers. If a quote is far below the range, ask what is missing. If it is far above, ask for a breakdown.

Minibus and coach rental prices

A coach is not always the right size. For smaller groups a minibus or microbus is often better value, because you do not pay for empty seats. The same Spanish operator gives a short minibus transfer from about €250 to €300 as a national reference. We have no verified minibus tariff for Barcelona.

The table below is a practical guide to the vehicle, not a price list:

Group size Usual vehicle Typical use
Up to 8 people Saloon or people carrier with driver Transfers, meetings, small groups
9 to 19 people Minibus or microbus Teams, large families, visits
20 to 35 people Large minibus or short coach Day trips, medium weddings
36 to 55 people 50 or 55 seat coach Schools, companies, large weddings
More than 55 people Two vehicles or a 60 to 72 seat coach Events, conferences, tournaments

If your group is 30 to 35, compare a minibus against a half-empty coach before you decide. For chauffeured cars and smaller parties, see private driver hire.

What decides the price of a coach with a driver?

A quote is a sum of lines. When a company sends one number with no breakdown, you cannot tell whether it is cheap or expensive. These are the lines that move the total:

  • Hours of service, including waiting. A coach parked outside a banquet still counts.
  • Kilometres, both with passengers and from the company's base to your pick-up point.
  • Seats and vehicle type: a minibus and a two-axle coach are priced differently.
  • Day and time: night, holiday and weekend services can carry a surcharge.
  • A second driver on long days, because of driving-time limits.
  • Tolls and parking, which cost more for a coach than for a car.
  • Driver accommodation on multi-day trips: hotel and meals.

Driver limits are not a company whim. Regulation (EC) 561/2006 sets daily driving at no more than nine hours, extendable to ten twice a week, and requires an uninterrupted break of at least 45 minutes after four and a half hours of driving. If your day needs more driving than that, you need a second driver or a split service, and the price reflects it.

Parking is another real cost in the city. Barcelona's Zona Bus system publishes on its official site a daily permit of 35 euros per coach and short stops of up to 10 minutes. Ask whether the company handles this and whether it is in your quote. Conditions can change, so check the official page for your date.

How much does a coach cost per kilometre?

There is no official per-kilometre tariff for coach hire with a driver, and none of the sources we opened gives a per-km figure for Barcelona, so we do not give one. What you will often see is a structure: a minimum number of hours, some included kilometres and a supplement for each extra hour or kilometre.

When you compare per-kilometre pricing, remember two things. The kilometre is not only the passenger leg, since the coach has to reach you from its base and go back, and some companies charge for it. And the per-kilometre figure usually falls on long trips, because the day is spread over more distance. For a fair comparison, ask every company for the same three items in writing:

  1. Hours included and the price of an extra hour.
  2. Kilometres included and the price of an extra kilometre.
  3. Whether the positioning from the base counts.

With those three you can put two quotes side by side. Without them you are comparing different things.

How much is a 50 or 55 seater coach?

A 50 or 55 seater is billed like any other coach: hours, kilometres and extras. Seats alone do not set the price. What changes is availability: large vehicles sell out first around communions, weddings and the end of the school year, and booking late narrows the field.

Some companies in our directory name large coaches on their websites. For example, the profile of Autocares Vista Bus lists seat counts from 6 to 60 according to its website, and Autocares Autocorb names vehicles from 4 to 72 seats and says it has operated since 1922. For the full list, go to our page on corporate and event transport or the coach hire companies in the directory.

How do you compare coach quotes properly?

All companies must price the same job. Send each the same message with the same itinerary and the offers become comparable. Our quote form sends one request to up to three companies at once.

Always include:

  • Date, pick-up time and expected finishing time.
  • Pick-up address, intermediate stops and final destination.
  • The exact number of passengers, with or without luggage, and whether anyone has reduced mobility.
  • Whether the coach waits at the destination or returns to base.

Ask the reply to state whether the price includes VAT, tolls, parking, fuel and waiting hours. A company can look cheaper only because it leaves out tolls and parking. If two quotes itemise different things, ask each to match the other before you decide.

What red flags should you watch for?

These are the signs that, in our view, should stop you before paying a deposit:

  • A fixed price with no hours or kilometres stated.
  • No mention of the driver's breaks or the driving-time limit on long days.
  • A refusal to name the vehicle (seats, age, plate) until the day of the service.
  • A deposit in cash or without an invoice.
  • A price far below the rest with no explanation.

A serious company will answer in writing. To see how we order the companies in the directory, read how we rank.

What if the group is small or the trip is short?

For a handful of people, a 55-seat coach is poor value even if the price per seat looks fair. The operator quoted above puts a short minibus transfer from about €250 to €300 and advises matching the vehicle to the group. If you are travelling to the airport, a transfer is usually priced per service, not per day: see our airport transfer guide. For a premium option, there is limo hire.

Our advice is to ask for two quotes with different vehicles, one snug and one roomy, and decide with both in front of you. Also decide whether you need a same-day return or a disposal service, where the coach stays at your disposal for several hours and is billed by time. If you travel with children or older passengers, plan for rest stops: they lengthen the day and should be in the quote from the start.

What about weddings, school trips and company events?

The same logic applies, but the pressure points differ. The operator we cite lists weddings and short transfers at €350 to €550 as a national reference. In Barcelona the total will rise with the waiting hours between the ceremony and the banquet and with the return leg, so give the company the full timetable. Our guide to corporate and event transport covers staff and conference shuttles, where the main cost drivers are the length of the service day and the number of vehicles that run at once.

For school outings, the extra questions are the seat belts, the number of accompanying adults and the break plan on longer routes. For all three, the best saving is simple: fix the dates early, keep the brief identical for every company, and ask the quote to say what happens if the group grows or shrinks by a few people. Changes in numbers are one of the most common reasons a final invoice differs from the first quote.

How far ahead should you book?

As early as the plan allows. Large coaches are the first to go on peak dates, and a late request gives you fewer companies to compare and less room to negotiate. When you have the date and the headcount, send the brief, then confirm in writing once you choose. Keep the quote, the vehicle details and the contact number for the day of the trip together in one message so nothing depends on memory.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to rent a bus with a driver?
It depends on the route, the hours, the seats and the day. One Spanish operator publishes €350 to €950 for a half day or local transfers and €550 to €1,450 for a full day, as general figures for Spain. For your group, ask several companies for a closed quote with our form and compare what each includes.
How much does it cost to rent a minibus in Barcelona?
We have no verified Barcelona tariff for minibuses. The same operator puts a short minibus transfer from about €250 to €300 as a national reference. The real price depends on hours, distance and day, so see our minibus hire page and request quotes with identical details.
How much does a 50 or 55 seater coach cost?
Seats alone do not set the price: a 55 seater is billed on hours and kilometres like a 50 seater. What changes is availability, since large coaches sell out first on peak dates. The operator's national full-day range of €550 to €1,450 refers to a 55 seater and is not a Barcelona tariff.
What is included in the price of a coach hire?
Normally the vehicle, the driver, mandatory insurance and fuel for the agreed route. Tolls, parking, driver accommodation on multi-day trips, night or holiday surcharges and waiting hours may be extra. Ask for a quote that itemises each line so you can compare like with like.
How can I get a cheaper bus quote?
Book early, choose a vehicle that fits the group rather than a larger one, avoid peak dates where you can, and keep waiting time short. Then send the same brief to several companies, which our quote form does for up to three. Cheaper only counts if the quotes include the same things.
